Elliptical barrel blunderbuss pistol circa early 19th century with iron barrel and mounts probably French but unmarked. The pistol measures 13 ½” overall with 6 ¾” barrel that measures nearly 2” across its flared mouth. The metal surfaces show a gray to brown patina finish with traces of original stripping pattern finish on the barrel. The lock is in its original flintlock configuration with correct hammer and small parts. The pistol shows an unusual possible periodrestock with an elongated grip and the addition of a metal fixture for accepting a lanyard or cord to hang the pistol from. The stock is definitely of the period of 19th century and in very good condition showing a light coating of a latervarnish. Blunderbuss pistols are always scarce but particularly with elliptical barrels. Est.: $1750-$3500
