Elaborately engraved gold inlaid single barrel early pinfire 12 gauge shotgun by Royal gun maker Caron of Paris showing gold inlaid signature on the barrel which indicates Royal gun maker to the Emperor Napoleon the 3rd in French. The gunmeasures 46 ¾” when assembled with 31 ½” barrel. The under lever action has a removable metal type reinforcement under the lever which mounts in front of the frame beneath the barrel for added reinforcement and is also released by a latch. The lock, frame and mounts are heavily and finally engraved in scroll motifs and the signature is inlaid in high relief gold letters on top of the barrel. The lock is also signed. The metal surfaces show a deep brown patina and darkeningwith some erosion and pitting. The stock shows some wear and light refinishing with an old repair at the wrist. The overall condition of the gun is fair to good. The case is lined in high quality blue velveteen with beautiful stand of arms andfull Caron signature with his title as Royal gun maker and his address in French. The case is in very good plus to near fine condition showing just some minor aging, slight fraying and minor indentations. Two accessories are missing and four
