Elaborate saber marked “Artilleria Fabrica de Toledo 1878” made during period of time E. Zuluoga re-introduced damascene and metal work of the Renaissance style to Spain and Europe. The hilt is finely chiseled withfigures of elephants on each quillon and the pommel is nicely chiseled in the form of a lion head. The grip is grooved horn with wire wrap. The blade is fashioned in an eastern design with a curved shape and clippoint. The blade is finely etched ¾ of the way down the back which was then chiseled and gilted approx 30% gilt remains on original polished blade with just some minor staining. The mounts are etched and chiseled to match with leather over metal body. The sword is in good to very good condition with an uncleaned patina just normal aging. The metal work of Toledo during the 19th century was of great quality and won many awards atinternational exhibitions. Sought after by collectors’ worldwide. Est.;$4,000-$8,000.
