Elaborate Engraved and Gold Inlaid "2 Tigers" 1962 India Commemorative Pre-64 Winchester Model 70 Bolt Action Rifle in 375 H&H Magnum

Manufactured in 1950 during the Transition period (late 1945 to 1951), this rifle later received a custom engraving with gold inlays to commemorate the pervious owner's March 1962 tiger hunting trip in India. During this particular hunting excursion, the owner killed two tigers with this rifle. The barrel has a 2 inch section of scrollwork engraved on the sides at the muzzle and a 10 3/4 inch section of scrollwork at the rear. The scrollwork extends to the rear sight base. The left side of the barrel retains the standard Winchester markings followed by "375 MAGNUM" (the first style caliber designation stamp for the 375 H&H Magnum) along with "2 TIGERS/MARCH 1962 INDIA" inlaid in gold at the breech to commemorate the tiger hunt. The floor plate and trigger guard feature extensive coverage of the scrollwork pattern. The trigger guard also features gold inlaid initials and the floor plate also features a gold inlaid tiger in a jungle scene. Scrollwork also appears on the bolt handle which has a gold inlaid tiger head on the knob. The rifle features a hooded ramp front sight, a two position rear sight and a Bear Cub 2 3/4x scope on custom mounts. Jeweled bolt (no number) and follower, late safety and straight receiver tang. The nicely figured custom pistol grip stock, which the consignor notes state was done by Earl Matsui in koa wood, a wood native to Hawaii used in traditional canoe making and high end musical instruments, features a high comb, cheekpiece, contrasting forend tip and grip cap, sling swivels and vented Pachmayr White Line recoil pad.

Very fine as custom embellished. The rifle retains 98% of the custom blue finish with an area of smooth gray patina on the floor plate. The stock has some scattered very minor handling marks, with a highly attractive and deep striping pattern. The very nice scrollwork is crisp. Mechanically excellent. The scope has clear optics. A wonderful Model 70 Rifle!
