There is no serial number visible (NSNV). This edo Period (1603 - 1868) Japanese matchlock Tanegashima is chambered in approximately .88 caliber with a 27" barrel. The front sight is a tall blade at the muzzle and the rear is a small notch in a large base on the barrel. The wood is one piece, full stocks and has a channel for the included ramrod. The wood shows minor dings and scratches. A set of small cracks are present at the rear of the barrel that do not flex when pressed. The bore is shootable. The finish has turned to a patina with some scratches and minor oxidation. The mechanism functions correctly. A large inlaid Kamon is present on the top of the barrel. The matchlock uses a burning twine to ignite the powder charge when rotated up to it. After firing the "used" portion falls away as the twine continues burning. ANTIQUe
