East German Rework Gustloff K98 Bolt Action Long Rail Sniper Rifle
This is an example of a late war production K98 rifle as manufactured by the Gustloff Werke, Weimer and later reworked in East Germany. The rifle is fitted with a "dow" coded Opticotechna, Czechoslovakian scope mounted on a long rail system on the left side of the receiver. The scope has the rotating center ring for elevation adjustments with settings from 1 to 8 and is marked "dow" and "+" on the top near the eye piece. The top of the receiver is marked with the "bcd" wartime code for the Gustloff Werke at Weimar and "4" for the year of manufacture. The right side is marked with the number "1" and two Nazi proofmarks. The left side of the chamber is marked with the Nazi firing proof and the left rear of the barrel is marked with a East German final eagle proof and a "crown/U" East German inspection proof. The top breech end of the barrel is marked with a triangle over illegible mark. The rifle has a milled front barrel band and floor plate and stamped trigger guard, and middle barrel band. Hooded front sight and tangent rear sight graduated to 2,000 meters, The stock and handguard are the correct "bcd" produced laminated wartime versions and the stock is stamped with an eagle over "H", designating Army issue, on the right side and double stamped "2669" on the left side.
