Early clip-point bowie knife marked “Manufactured YW&S Butcher, Sheffield” and stamped on blade “Warranted of Best Quality”. Shows full etched blade and high quality with clipped point, radical curve, andmeasures almost 1/4” thick. The grip and guard are German Silver, the grip is pierced, and shows florals and Scottish thistle. The pommel shows a crown motif. The blade is in good condition showing most of its etchingthat has gone very light, some scattered erosion and pinprick pitting, but generally good overall in its full dimension with just a slight bit of possible sharpening and shows a Spanish notch. The grip, guard, and bladeare completely untouched and as-found and uncleaned in modern times. A partial scabbard, throat, and retaining band are included. The forward half of scabbard is missing. This bowie would date between 1837to 1840, and is by one of the premier bowie knife makers in the early period.
