Early Winchester Model 1876 lever action “open top” rifle, .45-75 caliber, extra long 32” octagon barrel (per factory records, the first 32” ’76 recorded); S/N 4910, blued and case hardened frame, set trigger (not working at time of description with adjustment screw broken off long ago), buckhorn rear and silver blade front sights, wood stocks with professionally carved butt stock wrist in Victorian style. This special order rifle is in overall very good condition a plum brown patina to barrel and loading tube, grey patina to frame with traces of silver toning; very good bore, crisp action, caliber stamping at rear of barrel done later; very good wood stocks with beautiful flame grain to butt stock. Original factory letter confirms casehardening, barrel length and shape, set trigger and sights; mention is also made of “Checkered stock”; gun was received in the warehouse on July 11, 1878 and shipped on July 11, 1878 to order number 12270.
