This is a nice example of an early WWII production G41 rifle manufactured by the Berlin-Lubecker manufacturing company in 1943. The early G41 series of rifles used the "Bang Gas-Trap" system which employed a barrel mounted "Gas Trap" muzzle cone to trap hot gas that was bled off when the round was fired and which cycled the action. The system was time consuming and costly to produce and was eventually replaced with the standard G43 series of rifles. This example has a rough milled receiver with the left side marked "G/41/duv 43/Eagle 214 Waffenamt/5753h" and the opposite side marked with a single Eagle firing proof. Milled bolt carrier with the bolt latch on the left side and the cocking knob on the right, with a machined action cover. Front sight has a sheet metal cover. Laminated stock and black resin handguard stamped with a double Waffenamt Eagle 214 proof on the buttstock and a small Eagle proof in the pistol grip.
BBL: 24 inch round
Stock: laminated
Gauge: 8 mm Mauser
Finish: blue
Grips:
Serial Number: 5753h
Condition: Very fine. The rifle retains 95% plus original blue finish overall with wear and thinning on the edges and high spots overall, with the blue finish thinning and turning brown on the barrel bands, the front gas system and the action cover. The exposed magazine has lost most of the blue finish and has turned a gray patina. The stock and handguard shows numerous light pressure dents, dings and gouges overall from actual field use and has the large initials "VIN" carved in front of the buttplate on the underside of the stock. A very nice example of an early WWII G41 rifle.
