Early Production Colt Storekeeper Model 1877 Lightning Double Action Revolver with Three Digit Seria
According to the included factory letter, this revolver was shipped as 1 of 5 to John P. Moores & Sons, New York, N.Y. on April 12, 1877. The letter also verifies the serial number, caliber, nickel finish with the barrel length and stocks "Not Listed". This revolver has a 3 1/2 inch barrel without the ejector rod, a small half-moon front and frame notched rear sights and checkered one piece rosewood grips. The revolver is finished nickel with high polished blue trigger, hammer (polished sides) and screws. The top of the barrel is marked "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. Co / HARTFORD. CT. U.S.A.", the left side of the barrel is marked "COLT. D.A. 38" and the left side of the frame is stamped with the three line, three patent dates (very faint). The complete matching serial number is marked on the frame, trigger guard, rear face of the cylinder and backstrap. The right rear of the trigger guard bow is marked with the Colt factory rework five point star and the bottom of the barrel and the front face of the cylinder are marked with a square followed by a "42". The butt is double stamped with a series of numbers "45 3 over a 9 025". There is no hole for a strain screw or pin used with two piece grips in the front strap. This configuration was found only on the very early Model 1877s.
