This is an excellent example of an early post WWI German Luger that was issued to the early Weimar Police. These were standard issue from 1920 to approximately 1929 and this specific Luger appears to be a late WWI Luger that was just modified for the sear safety (partially intact over the side plate) and reissued out. It does not have the later 1920 Reischwehr reissue stamp over the chamber area. These WWI Lugers all have a rust blued metal finish with straw colors on the various small parts with checkered walnut grips. The top of the chamber is dated 1918 for the year of manufacture and it has the standard "DWM" monogram on the front toggle assembly. The right side of the barrel extension is marked with three "crown/ gothic letter" proofs, with Imperial Eagle firing proof, which is also located top right rear section of the barrel. The left side of the pistol has the correct partial police sear safety over the side plate. The front grip strap has no unit markings, also indicating an early post WW1 Weimar issue. It is complete with one nickel plated wood base magazine that has an unreadable number stamped on the base.
BBL: 4 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 9 mm Luger
Finish: blue/straw colors
Grips: walnut
Serial Number: 5126d
Condition: Very fine with 75% of the arsenal blued finish remaining with wear on the edges and high spots overall, with spotting and browning on the grip straps. The various small parts retain 30% of their straw colors. The grips are in fine condition with good checkering on both sides with even honest wear across the tops of the checkering with some minor light pressure dents and dings. The wooden magazine base has a crack through the center, which could be easily repaired. It has all matching numbers except the magazine as noted above and the grips which are unnumbered. A nice representative example of an early Weimar Police Luger.
