Featured in this lot we have a wood carved 'Outfitter" trade sign. The sign is estimated to be from the mid to late 1800s, though no exact date is known. The piece would have hung on the outside of an outfitter or outdoor goods supplier in Montana or similar states. The sign is made of a single piece of 1" thick dark stained wood with "Outfitter" carved into it. It shows professionally carved letters, each painted with gold paint on the lettering. The sign is in good condition overall with some wear indicative of age and use. The sign measures just under 99" long by 17" tall. The letters show a unique incused beveled style, which is artfully appealing.
