Early Henry rifle in .44 rim-fire caliber serial number 1753. The barrel shows an even brown patina finish with some traces of blue mixed in and scattered erosion and pinprick pitting just starting with a couple of slightly heavier areas that are very small and minor. The barrel address is sharp and clear and the edges fairly crisp. The frame has been lightly cleaned but remains in very good condition with tight side plates and good edges with not a lot of wear. The butt stock is a well-made replacement that fits well and looks good. The butt plate is original and matches and shows similar light cleaning to match frame. There are minor restorations and replacements of small parts and screws. The rifle is mounted with correct style sling swivels. The rear sight is original and shows the thousand yard graduation which is proper for the early production range. There is an extra hole with plus screw for an early peep type tang sight. The bore is very good plus. The Henry shows proper sight positions with dovetail in the frame. Several Henry’s are known in this range that were shipped to individuals and regiments in Kentucky at the beginning of the Civil War. Gale Historical West Collection. Est.: $17,000-$34,000.
