Manufactured in 1908. This two barrel set consists of a 26 and 28 inch barrel set. Both sets are Krupp fluid steel with a single ivory bead sight on the solid matte rib, 3 inch chambers with ejectors and the 26 inch is choked modified/improved modified and the 28 inch modified/full. Both are numbered to the gun and have matching serial numbered checkered walnut splinter forearms with engraved push button release and knuckle, with a horn forend insert. Information provided by the consignor states that the Ithaca factory records list this as a 6E Grade 12 gauge 2 barrel shotgun with 26 and 28 inch Krupp steel barrels. The barrels, trigger guard and break lever are blue and the box lock action casehardened. The action features tight English scroll engraving with a gold inlaid hunting dog and "ITHACA GUN CO." on each side. The underside has a round panel with four quail in a nest among tall grass. The trigger guard has a marsh scene with ducks. Tang mounted safety with gold "S", double gold washed triggers and mounted with a deluxe, extra fancy walnut pistol grip stock with checkered flats with a diamond pattern in the center and fancy bordered, Fluer-de-Lis checkering on the wrist, hard rubber grip cap, gold initial shield and hard rubber checkered Ithaca buttplate. The set comes in a hard leather takedown case with nickel corner protectors, leather handle and gray fabric lining.
BBL: 28 / 26 inch solid rib
Stock: walnut
Gauge: 12
Finish: blue/casehardened
Grips:
Serial Number: 177896
Condition: Fine as partially refinished. The 28 inch barrel set retains 90% blue finish with some scattered minor pitting under the finish and some thinning to gray on the right side at the muzzle and some thinning on the breech ends. The forearm has been refinished and the checkering professionally re-cut. It shows only light handling marks and the checkering is very crisp. The 26 inch barrels retain 80% blue finish with thinning on the breech end, showing some scattered light spotting, a small amount of pin prick type pitting under the finish. The forearm is very good showing some minor dings and bruises in the otherwise crisp checkering. The remaining metal surfaces have a smooth gray patina. All of the gold inlay remains. The stock is very good. There is a minor 1 1/2 inch crack extending from the tang back and the diamonds on each side would suggest a repair was done. The stock is solid and shows a few minor scratches and dings, and the checkering remains crisp. Mechanically excellent. The case is good with a few scuffs on the exterior and the relined interior is excellent. A nice rare Flues 6E Grade two barrel set.
