Offered for bidding in this lot is a gorgeous side saddle from the personal collection of Kent DeVore - Owner and operator of "DeVore Saddlery", of Helena Montana since 1950. The invention of the earliest "functional" side saddle is credited to Anne of Bohemia between 1366-1394. The functional purpose of the side saddle was to keep the modesty of the women utilizing them - they fell out of popularity between 1900-1950 when it became acceptable for women to ride astride, and wear trouser while doing so. As silly as the reasons for use may be, women still managed to accomplish awesome feats using a side saddle. This particular sidesaddle shows a rich dark khaki color, absent of any tooling or makers mark, The underside of the fender does read "X702". The saddle has a cotton padded undercarriage, a single ladies stirrup, and a striped cotton billet strap. The side saddle also shows an "average set" pommel. The seat measurement for the saddle comes to; 13" wide, and 23 1/4" long.
