Early American buck and ball gun signed J. Bean on barrel. One of the best known names in East Tennessee, circa approx. 1814-1834. The gun measures approx. 63-1/2” overall with 48” octagon to round medium weight barrelshowing iron v-notch rear sight and blade front sight. The gun is stocked in nicely striped walnut with brass mounts, engraved in floral or daisy motif. The gun has been reconverted from percussion back to flint and shows a T. Ketland marking on lock. The metal surfaces have been recolored on barrel, the lock cleaned to bright. The stock is good plus with some opening around the pin holes and an old copper repair to the toewhich has aged nicely. The wrist shows characteristic wide-spaced naïve checkering. The gun has an attractive look. The Bean family were pioneers and William Bean was a Revolutionary War officer who along withDaniel Boone were the first white men to view the land around Bean’s Station. J. Bean was a later descendent of this early pioneer who worked in this crossroad for settlers headed West. Est: $4,000 - $8,000
