Early 3rd model Brown Bess showing GR and crowned at center of lock with tower at rear of lock also lazy S shaped side plate with early type comb and molding around the tang. .69 caliber smoothbore in very good pluscondition showing a dark patina on barrel with some minor pitting and erosion around the firing areas of breech. The hammer and small parts are all original and the lock is well marked. The stock is also very good plus with a bulbous swell around the rear ramrod pipe (denotes early 3rd model) and just some small scratches, minor dings, dents and normal aging. There is a good inspection mark on the left side of the stock above thetrigger which shows a British type crown in and the initials IP or TP. There are also some smaller inspector marks that are not legible just behind the bottom trigger guard and on the belly of the stock. The musketretains its original swivels and a ramrod. Also shows good proofs on the left side of the breech. From the styling configuration we would date this Brown Bess at 1780 to the war of1812. Est. $1,000-$2,000.
