This is an excellent example of a very rare and scarce early 1934 'K-Dated' Luger pistol as manufactured by the Mauser factory. This example is a very early sub variation 3 or transitional Luger that has both the scripted "S" in the "S/42" code on the toggle and a Gothic "S" on all parts. These early 'K' date Lugers are extremely rare with an estimate of only 10,000 total produced in 1934 with only 3,850 total made in this sub variation. The top of the chamber has the large "K" date which was the secret code for Luger manufactured in 1934. The right side of the barrel extension has the single large script "S" proof over the early style "B/90" and "S/91". It has the military style full serial number (6031) on the front of the frame, under side of the barrel, the left side of the barrel extension, with the last two digits of the serial number (67) stamped on the various small parts along with the small Gothic letter "S" as noted above. It is fitted with checkered walnut grips, both are correctly numbered "31" on the back with the left side carrying a partial Gothic "S" inspection mark. As noted this pistol is complete with two matching magazines marked as follows; "S/6031/Boxed B90" proof with the second magazine also marked the same way with an additional "+" symbol. It is complete with an original 1934 black leather holster that is marked on the back side, "CARK ACKVA A, G./BAD KRUEZNACH/1934". Inside the flap of the holster it has the takedown tool pouch that carries an original early takedown tool that is also proofed "S/Boxed B90/S42" and the back is numbered 4221.
BBL: 4 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 9 mm Luger
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut checkered
Serial Number: 6031
Condition: Very fine as refinished with 80% professionally applied rust blue finish remaining overall with wear on the edges and high spots, with finish loss on the side plate hump and front frame rails, mixed with a partially restored blued finish on the center section of the barrel and the rear grip strap. The restored finish has blended and aged over time and now very closely matches the rest of the pistol. The various small parts retain 80% of their straw colors. The grips are in very good condition with nice original checkering on both sides showing original even, honest wear across the tops of the checkering with minor handling marks, but no cracks or damage. The leather holster is also in excellent condition with nice clear markings on the back, with nice tight stitching overall. The surface of the leather and stitching has an old redyed and black polished finish which has also very nicely aged and provides a very nice appearance to the holster. As noted this pistol is all matching to include both magazines and even though it shows some very minor restoration. This is still an extremely rare Luger pistol and is very rare in this high end condition.
