Early 1900'S Wooden L.C. Smith & Bros. Crate
In 1903, the L.C. Smith & Brothers Typewriter Co. was incorporated in the State of New York. In 1915, came the No.8 to Smith & Bros; it was the cornerstone of their business. The major innovation of the No.8 over the first few models was the application of ball bearing in the type bar mechanism. This crate was custom made especially for the shipping of these typewriters. The crate is tongue and grove made, with the bottom made to be removed to reach the typewriter. The box shows the company's name, information, and logo in black and red paint on the crate. There are also remnants of shipping documents still on the crate. The crate has solid sides and the bottom is gone. The crate measures 16" X 12" X 19" and is in good condition.
