FACTORY PRE 86 DEALER SAMPLE (KEEPER) SHORT BARRELED RIFLE. Cal.5.56 NATO. S# 410218. Bbl. 14.25". The popular Sig Sauer model 551A1 Rifle is an American manufactured civilian version of the SG 551 used by the Swiss Army. It utilizes an adjustable gas piston w/ a 2-position adjustable gas valve and a rotating bolt system. 16" barrel, w/ 4 grooves and 1:7 rifling, terminated w/ SIG 550 series flash hider. This example is an early original pre-ban SG 551-2 SP SWAT Short Barreled Rifle. These are exceptionally rare as less than 50 total SG551-2 rifles were ever imported, far less being original, factory Short Barreled Rifles. It even has the selector block on the left side, preventing the selector from being moved into the "full auto" position". This is not a commercial or "look alike", but the real deal. Right-side folding stock that locks in both open and closed positions. Right side reciprocating charging handle. Sig added a rubber insert to the rear portion of the charging slot as a gasket to keep debris from entering the path of the bolt & fire control group. It employs an ambidextrous safety / selector w/ a left side bolt hold open lever above the trigger guard. The upper & lower receivers are finished in a factory grey hard coat anodized finish. Sights are composed of a hooded blade front and 4-position rotary diopter rear sight adjustable from CQB use, out to to 400 meters. 10" black plastic forearm. Magazine rocks into place similar to an AK platform w/ the mag release also functioning in a similar way. MAGS: One 30rd factory. CONDITION: Externally, the finish coverage is complete & consistent w/ very little sign of use. The bore is bright w/ strong rifling. Unfortunately, it may not have been stored in optimum conditions as the butt bad and cocking handle rubber covers have succumb to the elements in the form of missing plastic. The top & bottom inch of the rubber recoil pad are missing, feeling soft, almost melted, and the same for the rubber charging handle cover. With the replacement of these 2 small parts, the gun would be better than overall excellent. Fire control mechanism appears to function correctly when cycled by hand. PRE-86 DEALER SAMPLE (KEEPER). NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT SBR REQUIRING BATF TRANSFER BEFORE TAKING POSSESSION. YOU MUST BE A CURRENT NFA/SOT DEALER IN ORDER TO TAKE POSESSION OF THIS FIREARM. PROVENANCE: Lifelong Collection of Terrance McCarty. (03-1697/JZ). MODERN, CLASS III. $4,500-6,500
