ENGRAVED COLT MODEL 1849 POCKET REVOLVER WITH FACTORY IVORY GRIPS, APRIL 1854. Cal. 31. S# 86092. This exquisite 6 inch pocket model is listed by serial number in Gustave Young's Ledger which is institutionalized at the Raymond Baldwin museum in Hartford. R.L Wilson in his text "The Colt Engraving Book" states there are very few serial numbers known of the approximate 250 numbers listed in the Gustave Young ledgers. This revolver has survived in its original the deluxe mahogany Colt casing in exemplary condition with rarely seen silver plated 2-cavity "Colts Patent" bullet mold & fine "Colts Patent" flask. The finest scroll engraving has full coverage on both sides a frame, barrel lug, loading arm pivot, and hammer. Backstrap has full coverage on butt and half of backstrap. Trigger guard is engraved on bottom of bow, Each serial number is frame engraved. Scrolls terminate and flowers. "Samuel Colt" Engraved on top of barrel & "COLTS PATENT" On the left side of frame. Every screw head is original with engraved design. This is among the top few 6 inch Colts extant. CONDITION: excellent overall, all matching & original, retaining over 90% bright original blue on barre, over 80% thinning blue on cylinder, over 95% silver on grip frame. Muted case colors more visible on the un-engraved portions of frame, hammer and loading assembly, engraving is overall lightly iridescent silver gray. Grips have a smooth mellow aged ivory patina. Mechanics are crisp, with bright shiny rifled bore. Casing is also fine with expected wear and soiling to red baize lining, components all fine, including silver plated Colt patent mold, Colt patent flask, pewter oiler, Colt "L" shaped combination tool, sealed pack of 5 cartridges, and orange label cap tin.
