EARLY 19TH CENTURY NAVAL ROUND HAT.

This rare hat measures approx. 5" high & 11" across at its widest point. The hat is likely British in origin but could be from another European country. It is heavy, black pressed felt w/ a black ribbed band that appears to be cotton. There is a 3 1/2" round cockade on the left side of similar material to the band. In the center of the cockade is a 1 piece anchor button w/ a stippled background, typical of 1812 era British Naval buttons & even some early American buttons. The edge of the brim has a narrow sewn edging material. Sweatband is leather. The interior lining appears to be white silk gathered in the center of the crown & tied w/ a blue ribbon. CONDITION: hat shows very minor moth damage & has a slight 1/4" tear at 1 edge. The hat is a bit dusty overall & could use a careful cleaning. Sweatband is complete & quite solid. Liner appears complete but is shredded in some areas. (02-15506/BF). $1,500-2,500.
