E. Custer Tenting On The Plains 3 Vol. Slipcase
Featured in this lot is a set of three (3), 1971 first printing of the new edition of, "Tenting On The Plains" by Elizabeth E. Custer. This set of three comes in a nice slipcase that easily and securely houses all three books. Elizabeth Clift Bacon Custer (April 8, 1842 - April 4, 1933) was the wife of General George Armstrong Custer. She spent most of their marriage in relatively close proximity to him despite his numerous military campaigns as a commanding officer in the United States Cavalry. After his death, she became an outspoken advocate for her husband's legacy through her popular books and lectures. Largely as a result of her endless campaigning on his behalf, Custer's iconic portrayal as the gallant fallen hero amid the glory of 'Custer's Last Stand' was a canon of American history for almost a century after his death. The first book features a mustard yellow color, the second is a light tan color, and the third is an earthy red. The tan and earthy red/brown slipcase features the title on the front reading, "Tenting On The Plains" with a small tent picture above the title. The set is in very good condition with slight foxing to the front of the slipcase. Each book is in very good condition, all interior pages are in very good condition as well, with little no wear. The entire collection measures 7 3/4" L x 5 1/4" W x 2 3/4" D. The books measure 7 1/2" L x 5" W x 7/8" D.
