For your consideration are these two wood carved decoys: a Drake Black Duck and a Blue Bill Drake. Both of these decoys have a wonderful vintage look to them, yet each is vastly different from the other. The Drake Black Duck Decoy is mostly black; it also has a gray bill and yellow Glass eyes. This decoy is solid with a rounded bottom; it looks to have been further weighted with lead. The bottom has an older hand-written sticker that attributes this decoy to Ted Mattson, though no info could be found for this name. The sticker also erroneously identifies the decoy as a Mallard. The decoy is in good overall condition; it measures 14.5" long x 5" wide. The Blue Bill Drake Decoy is mostly black with some gray and a gray bill. One interesting detail on this decoy is the carved delineation between the bill and the face, giving it a more natural appearance. Also making this decoy different from the first is its wood tack eyes, hollow body and flat bottom. Hollow flat-bottom decoys are generally a finer grade decoy. The flat bottom decoys rock in the water to a lesser extent than do round bottom decoys, and being hollow makes them lighter when transporting. A tag on the bottom of this decoy attributes it to McDonald; no info found on the carver. It is in good overall condition. It measures about 13" long x 5.5" wide.
