This is an original Doug Hyde carved stone sculpture. Doug Hyde has studied at Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico. During his time at the school, he was fortunate to have studied under Allan Houser who is regarded as one of the greatest sculptors of the 20th century. Hyde is a longtime Santa Fe resident whose works and exhibitions have earned him a successful career. This piece is carved from Utah alabaster and shows a Navajo woman with her young child. Hyde used the stone and is characteristics to create this wonderful piece. The carving shows incredibly fine detail and artistic ability. The carved stone sculpture is in very good condition. It measures 11" x 11" and is 22.75" tall.
