Documented and Inscribed Scarce Tulsa Sheriff's Colt Sheriff's Model Single Action Army Revolver with Factory Letter and Holster

This is one of approximately 500 Colt Sheriff's Model Single Action Army Revolvers with the "SM" suffix serial number that were manufactured from 1960 to 1975 with this example once belonging to a Tulsa Sheriff. The included Colt factory letter confirms the caliber, barrel length and finish with the type of stocks not listed. The revolver was shipped to Centennial Arms Corp. Chicago, IL on February 1, 1961 as part a 50 gun shipment. The first of these revolvers were marketed by Centennial Arms. The revolver has standard Colt barrel and frame markings with an inscription on the back strap "TULSA/OKLAHOMA" and "DAVE FAULKNER/SHERIFF". The grip straps and smooth walnut grips are numbered to the gun. A letter addressed to Deputy Sheriff John Nelson of Tomay, California, from Sheriff Dave Faulkner dated 1979 confirms that the revolver was once carried by Faulkner and that the holster in this lot was handmade by one of Faulkner's deputies. The open top/open toe leather holster has deeply tooled stacked initials "DF" along the front. Research pertaining to Faulkner's career as a sheriff is also included with the gun. Retiring in 1982, Faulkner served as Tulsa County Sheriff for 23 years with a total of 44 years in law enforcement. During his tenure, Faulkner transformed the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office into the largest in the state of Oklahoma. He was held in high regard with one friend commenting, "As a politician [Faulkner] was perhaps the most popular figure to ever run for local office."
