Documented Winchester Model 1873 Lever Action Rifle
Manufactured in 1886, this particular example is a Third Model with the distinctive integral dust cover rail. The top of the barrel is marked with the two line address/King's patent dates ahead of the rear sight, "44 CAL." at the breech and "44 CAL." on the bottom of the brass cartridge elevator. The model designation is marked on the upper tang and the serial number on the lower tang. Marble blade front sight with a brass bead and adjustable rear buck horn sight. Full magazine, all blue finish with casehardened hammer and lever, and mounted with a smooth forearm with iron end cap and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate with compartment. The accompanying Cody fact sheet verifies the serial number, rifle configuration, round barrel, plain trigger and that it was shipped on November 8, 1886.

Condition: Very fine. The barrel and magazine retain at least 80% original blue finish the balance of smooth plum. The receiver retains 90% original spotting blue finish giving way to smooth plum patina. The hammer retains most of the original vivid case colors. The lever and buttplate have a smooth mottled gray patina. The wood is good with strong original varnish remaining on the left side of the stock and scattered minor dings, dents and scratches. The markings remain crisp and clear. The action is excellent.
