This is an exceptional example of an all original and unaltered Colt Model 1908 Pocket Hammerless Pistol was manufactured in late WWII in the desirable .380 caliber. The Colt factory letter that accompanies this pistol states that it was shipped to the US Government, at Springfield Ordnance Depot, Springfield MA., on 5 June 1945 in a shipment of 188 pistols. The pistol has the high polish commercial blue finish and is fitted with checkered walnut grips with silver-plated Colt Medallions. The right side of the frame has the "U.S. PROPERTY" markings along with a small Cross-Cannon US Ordnance proof on the left side of the frame behind the slide lock. The slide has the later flat top rear sight and standard front sight blade. The left side of the slide is marked with the two line Colt address and patent dates of /1897 and 1903, with the Colt rampant horse trademark behind the slide serrations, with the right side of the slide marked: "COLT AUTOMATIC / CALIBRE .380 HAMMERLESS". The left side of the trigger guard bow is stamped with the Colt "VP" proof, and the number "4" and the right side is stamped with the Colt sub inspector proof of 64. The left side of the frame is marked with the serial number above the trigger guard. The magazine is blue and the floor plate is marked: "CAL.380 / COLT".

Condition: Near new condition with 99% plus of the original Colt high polish blue finish, with only very minor edge and high spot wear. The top of the slide does have some small light scratches in a couple of places, otherwise it's in exceptional condition. The grips are also in excellent to like new condition, with no handling marks, or flat spots, with nice sharp checkering. An extraordinary example of a desirable Colt 1908 pocket hammerless pistol, with a Colt factory letter.
