The included Springfield letter states that although the sales record does not list this Model 1903 as a National Match rifle, the rifle is referenced in Ordnance Department file 353.2/1571 as a rifle sold at the 1927 National Matches. The letter also confirms that the rifle was sold by Erie Ordnance Reserve Depot to an individual in Dayton, Ohio, on August 28, 1927. The rifle has standard Springfield Armory markings on top of the receiver. The barrel is marked "SA / ordnance bomb / 5-26" and the muzzle is stamped with the star gauge. The bright bolt is hand numbered to the gun with polished receiver side rails and follower. Smooth pistol grip stock and handguard, with the number "D28179" stamped on top of the handguard behind the rear barrel band and the number "D1836" on the underside of the buttstock. The buttstock is fitted with a finely checkered buttplate with trapdoor.
