Documented Factory Engraved Tucson Arizona Shipped Colt Single Action Army Revolver with Relief Carved Pearl Grips with Factory Letter

Manufactured in 1925. The revolver is accompanied by a Colt factory letter that describes it as caliber 38/40 with 4 3/4 inch barrel, nickel finish, rubber stocks and factory engraved Grade B coverage. The letter further states that this revolver was shipped to Albert Steinfeld and Company in Tucson, Arizona on October 15, 1925. The revolver is decorated with Colt "B" factory scroll engraving on a lined background. The engraving was executed by Wilbur A. Glahn. This revolver is illustrated and described on page 299 of THE BOOK OF COLT ENGRAVING by R.L. Wilson. The original hard rubber grips listed in the factory letter and shown in the above referenced illustration have been replaced with period Colt relief carved pearl steerhead grips. The right grip features a relief carved steer head. The hammer spur has borderless knurling. The top of the barrel is roll stamped with the two line legend "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. Co./HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.". The left side of the barrel is roll stamped "38 W.C.F." in a rectangular panel surrounded by scrollwork. The left side of the frame is roll stamped with the Colt two line, three patent dates followed by the Rampant Colt trademark. The assembly number "466" is stamped on the inside of the loading gate. The left front trigger guard bow is stamped with a "3" assembler's mark and the Colt "Triangle/VP" proofmark. The serial number "347911" is stamped on the bottom of the frame, and on the right side of the trigger guard and back strap underneath the grips. The partial serial number "11" is stamped on the rear face of the cylinder. All of the visible serial numbers match. Only about 1,000 Colt Single Action Army revolvers were factory engraved in 67 years of production. Factory engraved Single Action Army revolvers like this outstanding example are rare and very desirable.

Guage: 38-40 WCF
Finish: nickel
Grips: pearl

Excellent. The revolver retains 95% of the original nickel plated finish. There is some minor flaking on the edges of the barrel at the muzzle, on the front and rear edges of the cylinder and on the edges of the hammer. The cylinder shows some light abrasion marks. The well-executed engraving is deep and sharp. The markings and serial numbers are crisp. The grips are very good and fit well with only very minor shrinkage. The relief carved steer head has minimal wear. There is a small chip in the heel of the right grip and some very minor nicks on the edge of the right grip. Although the grips are not original to this revolver, they are period Colt grips that enhance the overall look of this outstanding revolver. This is an excellent example of a scarce post-WWI factory engraved Colt Single Action Army revolver documented on The Book of Colt Engraving as engraved by master factory engraver Wilbur Glahn.
