Colt manufactured approximately 1,100 of these revolving shotguns in both 10 and 20 gauge between 1860 and 1863. The top strap is marked, "COL. COLT HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.", the left side of the frame is marked, "COLT'S PATENT/Nov 24th 1857", the serial number is marked on the bottom of the frame and the faint one line 1850 patent date is marked on one of the cylinder flutes. Brass bead front sight, casehardened hammer and loading lever, and mounted with a smooth walnut forearm with a brass forend and deluxe factory highly figured burl walnut checkered straight grip stock with an iron shotgun buttplate. The hickory ramrod is an incorrect replacement. The accompanying factory letter regretfully advises that there is not any information available on this shotgun due to lost or destroyed records.

Condition: Very good. The metal surfaces have a smooth dark brown patina. There is some minor flash pitting on the top strap and some heavier pitting around the percussion nipples. The wood is also very good with a three inch vertical crack present on right side of wrist, some fine crazing of the varnish on the highly figured walnut stock (following the grain) and overall there are some minor dents and scratches. The action is fine.
