This factory engraved presentation Colt DA revolver features factory floral scroll engraving on the barrel sides, frame, every other cylinder flat and the back strap. The lower left side of the frame has a geometric design, and the top strap, trigger guard, butt and every other cylinder flats have a zigzag lie, circle and dot design. The top of the barrel is marked with the two line address/patent dates with a scallop border and the left side is marked "COLT POLICE/POSITIVE .38" amid the floral scroll engraving. The Rampant Colt is in an oval panel on the left side of the frame and the matching serial number is on the frame and crane. The front strap is factory inscribed "Captain George P. Fohs". According to a notarized letter from Kelly Historical this revolver, identified by the serial number, was presented to Captain George P. Fohs of the Newark, New Jersey Police Department for his promotion to the rank of Captain. The letter further states that factory engraved and inscribed Colt Police Positive revolvers are extremely rare with possibly only 10 known. Also with the revolver are copies of George Fohs' death notices. Standard blade front and frame notch rear sights, and fitted with smooth pearl grips with Colt medallions. The accompanying factory letter verifies the caliber, 4 inch barrel, blue finish, pearl grips, Level 1 factory engraving and inscription, and that it was shipped as 1 to Albert Foster Jr. at Colts Patent Firearm Co. New York Office on April 19, 1917.
