Desirable early U.S. Springfield Model 1873 Trapdoor saddle ring carbine, .45-70 cal., 22” barrel, blue finish, correct wood half stock with no cleaning rod hole in wood of butt stock, #41698. This gun is in overallgood uncleaned condition and is the way collectors like to find them; heavy dark patina on metal surfaces, fair + bore, crisp action, good markings on lockplate; sling swivel on barrel band has had swivel removedlong ago; wood stock is overall good showing great pommel wear and scattered old mars and scratches from carry and storage; partially visible circle P proof behind the trigger guard; correct early ’73 SRCs arehard-to-find in any condition and this one is from the estate of a noted old collector. Between serial numbers 39,253 and 42,259 are two documented re-captured 7th cavalry guns from the Indian insurgents (see Custer Battle Guns by DuMont, pages 87 & 88). Est.: $3,000-$6,000.
