Desirable belt size clip point Bowie knife, circa 19th century, showing etched blade with Mexican snake and eagle, fancy scroll work and legend "Republica Mexicana", showing stamped makers logo on ricasso of Indianthrusting Bowie with words "self defense". The knife measures 11-1/2" overall, blade is approximately 7" and shows a clip point extending 3" back from the tip. The guard and mounts are turned steel, the grips arepearl with 4 German silver studs, German silver plaque on right. The grips show a few cracks, a small loss at the edge, and a couple of minor repairs. The blade is good to very good, some light cleaning, minorerosion, but is its original full dimensions with no alterations to shape. The original German silver fancy scabbard is retained with panels that imitate tortoiseshell. A very good 19th century Bowie with rare Mexicanmarkings. Est.: $1,000-$2,000
