This is an excellent example of a WWII 1940 Dated Mauser Banner Police Luger pistol rig with desirable "Eagle/L" Police proof, that also has the unusual/desirable "SU16" proof mark on the left side of the barrel, This proof indicates this barrel was contract barrel made by the Simson/Ulbright Company. These were used exclusively on Police contract lugers in the 1940 time frame. The top of the chamber area is stamped "1940" for the year of manufacture with the large Mauser/Banner logo on the front toggle. The standard "Eagle/L" Police proof is stamped on the right side of the receiver with the Nazi "Eagle/N" commercial proofmarks stamped on the left side of the receiver and the breechblock. The full serial number "4488x" is stamped on the front of the frame with "4488" stamped and the left side of the barrel extension, but not on the underside of the barrel. The last two digits of the serial number "88" are stamped on the various small parts. The pistol has a salt blue finish and checkered walnut grips. This beautiful Police Luger rig is complete with two original, type two Police magazines. The magazine bodies are unmarked and the aluminum bases are marked: "1/4488/x" and "2/4488/x" respectively. It is complete with outstanding late black leather Police holster that is marked on the back: "A. FISCHER/BERLIN C.2/1939/Police Eagle proofmark.
