Desirable World War I Production U.S. Springfield Model 1903 Rifle with Bayonet

This is a Model 1903 bolt action rifle as manufactured by the Springfield Armory in 1917. The rifle has the WWI production features which include: Style "S" stock with grasping grooves and two-reinforcing bolts, "high hump" handguard and smooth uncheckered buttplate. The top of the receiver has the standard Springfield Armory markings with the barrel roll-marked: "S A/Ordnance Shell and Flame insignia/12-17". The barrel is fitted with the standard blade front sight with the military tangent rear sight with 2750 yard volley notch, dished rear sight elevation knob and dished windage knob. The bayonet lug is stamped with a small "H". The lower barrel band is marked with a block "U" and the safety and magazine cut-off have block letter markings. It has the standard milled components with a grooved trigger. The left side of the replacement stock wrist is stamped with only a single letter L with the standard "P" proof mark (non-script) stamped in the pistol grip area behind the trigger guard. It is fitted with a Rock Island bolt marked on the safety lug with the heat lot "C8". The receiver is a low numbered version, with a oil-quenched, case-hardened finish, with the barrel and various components all being blued. It is complete with a 1907 pattern leather sling and a Model 1905 bayonet with leather scabbard and a nickel plated oiler with a pull through swab holder and brush. The bayonet is marked "U.S./432588" and the obverse is "SA/1909" and the scabbard is stamped "R.I.A. 1909" on the back side.

Fine overall with 70% plus of the original oil-quenched case hardened finish on the receiver and 80% of the blue finish on the remaining parts. The stock and handguard are both in very fine condition with minor handling marks and light pressured dents on the sides. The bayonet is also in fine condition with clear markings with the bayonet having been lightly repolished with an old light sharpening on the edge. The scabbard and sling are both in fine condition with visible markings showing some darkening with some scrapes and flaking of the leather in some areas. Mechanically excellent. World War I Production M1903's are much sought after by collectors!
