This is an example of a rare Walther P.38 pistol with "480" code markings. The 480 Code was produced in late 1940 and represented the first true military contract pistol with approximately 7,250 produced. This earlier production P.38 has the high polish blue finish and reddish brown serrated bakelite grips. The left side of the slide is marked; "P.38", "480", followed by the serial number. The "480" code is also present on the left side of the trigger guard bow. The serial number is marked on the front of the barrel lug and the left side of the frame above the trigger guard bow. The lower left side of the magazine is marked "P 38" with the "eagle 359" proof on the lower spine and mismatched serial number on the bottom. The right side of the slide is stamped with two "eagle/359" Army acceptance marks on either side of a military "eagle/Swastika" firing proof. "eagle/359" stamps are located on the right side of the barrel lug and locking block, the left side of the frame, on the take-down lever, slide hold back, on top of slide in front of the rear sight and on the hammer. The firing proof is stamped on the left side of the locking block and the bottom is marked "541". The bore diameter "8,83" is marked on the left side of the barrel lug. Standard fixed sights, lanyard ring on the left heel and blue magazine marked "P.38" on the lower left side. The pistol is complete with a black leather flap holster marked "C. HEINICHEN / DRESDEN / 1940", "eagle/WaA708" and P38" on the back.
