Blade and folding ladder long range rear sight, with the bayonet lug on on the right side of the barrel, "A W/P" and "V/P/eagle head" on the upper left side of the breech, and "N.J" on the left flat. The lock plate bears the eagle and shield motif over "US" ahead of the hammer, and "HARPERS/FERRY/1851" to the rear. Smooth hardwood stock, with a brass tipped bugle head ramrod, 2 brass barrel bands, sling swivels, a pair of "NJ" cartouches on the left flat, brass patchbox lid on the right side, and a smooth brass buttplate. The "NJ" stamp and cartouches are found on U.S. arms that were assigned to the New Jersey Militia.

Condition: Very good, with a mixed gray patina, showing extensive dents around the rear sight base, spotting and handling marks. Wood is very good, with chipping around the ramrod channel, scattered dents, and mild varnish loss. A small brass badge marked "27" has been placed inside the patchbox, along with two ink-marked "WS" initials, and a small hole is present above the patchbox on either side of the buttstock. Mechanically fine.
