Manufactured from 1879 to 1883. The mismatched serialized barrel, (27354), has a folding two leaf rear sight and an empty front sight dovetail slot with "BROWNING BROS. OGDEN, U.T." stamped ahead of the rear sight and "45 GOVT" stamped at the breech. The Browning Brothers specialized in sporting goods and related items with stores in Ogden and Salt Lake City, Utah. The vernier sight on this rifle is without an eye disk and is graduated from 0 to 90 on the left side. The sides of the receiver have the "BALLARD A1" and "LONG RANGE" engraving with a scroll pattern. The left side of the receiver is stamped with the two line Marlin address/Ballard's patent marking and the underside of the receiver has the serial number. The rifle has double set triggers and a ring shaped lever and mounted with a smooth forearm and checkered buttstock with cheekpiece and nickel plated Swiss buttplate.

Condition: Fine as assembled. The barrel retains 95% thinning original blue finish with some minor spotting. The receiver, hammer and lever retain traces of original case colors in the protected areas. The replacement wood is also fine with a area of handling marks on the right side of the buttstock and some minor handling marks overall. The front sight and tang eye cup piece are missing. The checkering is crisp overall. Mechanically fine.
