This is an attractive example of a desirable 1923 Commercial Luger. This series of luger pistol usually exhibits workmanship and have a rust blued metal finish with the straw colored small parts, with standard checkered walnut grips. These 1923 model lugers fall into a specific serial number block that ranged from approximately 73,000 to 96,000 with this one falling in the middle of that serial number block. These were usually made from newly manufactured parts that were for sale both inside Europe and the United States. This specific model is marked with "GERMANY" in several places, indicating that is was intended for sale outside of Europe. The top of the chamber area is blank and it has the standard DWM logo on the front toggle. The barrel extension, underside of the barrel and left side of the breechblock have only a single "Crown N" commercial proofmark. The front of the frame is the only part that carries the full serial number (86016) and is correctly stamped "GERMANY", with last two digits of the serial number (16) on the trigger, take down lever, side plate and breechblock. It has the standard inverted "V" front sight with the standard notch cut rear sight. It is complete with one nickel plated magazine with a wooden base that is marked with "GERMANY" across the base.
BBL: 4 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 7.65 mm Luger
Finish: blue/straw colors
Grips: walnut checkered
Serial Number: 86016
Condition: Excellent overall with 98% of the original blued finish with minor edge and high spot wear, with solid blue on the grip straps. The blue finish has taken on a slightly frosted look in some areas from age that may brighten up with a little oil. The various small parts retain 75% of their straw colors overall. The grips are in very fine condition with nice distinct checkering on both sides, with light wear across the tops of the checkering with just a couple of minor handling marks. Mechanically fine with exception of the magazine having a weak spring which doesn’t always engage the hold open device. A very nice, attractive example of a 1923 Commercial Luger pistol.
