Manufactured in 1858, this particular Colt Model 1849 revolver has a three-inch octagon barrel with no provision for a loading lever and small round trigger guard. The revolver is in the correct 140,000-151,000 serial range for the "Wells Fargo" Model 1849 revolvers without loading levers. The top of the barrel is marked "{ADDRESS SAML COLT/NEW YORK CITY}". The five-shot cylinder is roll-engraved with the stagecoach holdup scene and "COLTS PATENT/No.140318" in two panels and "COLTS/ PATENT" is stamped on the left side of the frame. The complete matching serial number is marked on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, back strap and cylinder, the wedge is numbered "40318 and the arbor pin is marked "0318". Fitted with one-piece varnished grips. Wells Fargo models are a desirable and highly sought after variation of the Colt Model 1849 Pocket series.

Condition: Good. The medal surfaces have a dark patina with scattered moderate pitting. The brass has a dark aged patina with some dark aged silver remaining on the trigger guard bow and ahead of the bow. The cylinder scene is partially visible and the markings are readable. The grip has been re-varnished and remains very good with some minor lower edge wear and a few minor dents. The action is fine.
