Desirable Antique Winchester Model 1894 Lever Action Rifle with Cody Letter
Manufactured in 1896. The top of the barrel ahead of the rear sight is marked with the two line address, the left rear has the two line nickel steel/smokeless powder marking and "30 W.C.F." at the breech. The three line maker model patent date appears on the upper tang and the serial number is marked on the bottom of the receiver. Folding globe front sight with bead, three leaf (two folding) rear sight and desirable long range tang mounted peep sight. Full magazine, blue finish with casehardened hammer, trigger and lever, and mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with steel crescent buttplate. The accompanying Cody letter verifies the rifle configuration, caliber, round barrel, plain trigger, that the rifle was received in the warehouse on August 4, 1898, shipped with 17 other guns on August 13, 1898 and returned for repairs on September 12, 1898. No mention of the long range tang sight, though.

Condition: Very good. The rifle retains traces of the original blue finish in protected areas with the balance having a smooth brownish gray patina. The tang sight screws show some marring. The wood is very good with some overall scattered minor dings and dents. The markings remain clear. The action is excellent.
