Manufactured in 1896. The top barrel flat ahead of the rear sight is marked with the two line address with "38 W.C.F." at the breech. The upper tang is marked "MODEL 1892/-WINCHESTER-/PAT. OCT. 14. 1884." and the serial number is marked on the bottom of the receiver. The barrel is equipped with a German silver blade front sight and adjustable buckhorn rear sight. Double set triggers, full magazine, blue finish, with casehardened hammer and lever and mounted with a smooth nicely figured walnut forearm with steel endcap and straight grip stock with a casehardened crescent buttplate. Complete with an extra 24 inch 44 caliber octagon barrel with a blade front and buck horn rear sights, two line address on the top flat ahead of the rear sight and "44 W.C.F." at the breech, and smooth nicely figured walnut forearm. The accompanying factory letter verifies the takedown rifle configuration, 38 caliber, octagon barrel, set trigger, "With 38 caliber barrel" and that it was received in and shipped out of the warehouse on order number 11991, June 9, 1896. writer believes the caliber was mistakenly put as 38 instead of 44 because of the mentioning of the 38 caliber barrel. Condition: Very fine. The rifle retains 70% original blue finish with areas thinning to a smooth gray and plum patina. The extra barrel retains 80% original finish with some thinning to plum and normal usage wear on the magazine from breaking the rifle down. The wood is excellent, (including the extra barrel) with some light dents and scratches. The markings remain crisp and clear. The action is excellent. A very nice Model 1892 Takedown Rifle with special order extra barrel. The case is good with some age cracking and scuffs on the exterior and fraying of the lining. The stitching remains tight.
