This deluxe Winchester Model 1873 Rifle was manufactured in 1883. This deluxe, special order, rifle has a 24 inch round barrel with full-length magazine, casehardened receiver, single set trigger and fancy grade, checkered walnut stock and forearm. The barrel has a dovetail mounted front sight with nickel-silver blade and sporting style rear sight. The receiver has the Third Model dust cover with integral rail and serrated edges. The crescent steel buttplate has no trap. The stock pistol grip has a horn or ebony inlay. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the two-line legend: "WINCHESTER'S-REPEATING-ARMS NEW HAVEN CT./KING'S-IMPROVEMENT-PATENTED-MARCH 29 1866. OCTOBER 16.1860." ahead of the rear sight and the caliber "32 W.C.F." behind it. "32 CAL" is engraved on the bottom of the cartridge elevator. The upper receiver tang is factory drilled and tapped for a tang sight and roll-stamped: "-MODEL 1873-" with scroll work at either end of the model designation. The serial number "171810" is stamped on the lower receiver tang. No factory letter is available to writer at time of description.

Condition: Very good. The rifle retains traces of the original blue and casehardened finish. The magazine tube has been re-blued and has some scattered pitting. The barrel has a smooth, brown patina with some scattered age spotting. The receiver, dust cover, hammer and lever have a smooth sliver-gray patina. The buttplate has a dark patina with some patches of deep pitting. The barrel and frame markings are sharp. The stock and forearm are in very good condition with the original varnish finish. The checkered panels have moderate handling wear and there are scattered, minor, handling marks on the stock and forearm. The action requires repair; the hammer will not fall when the trigger is pulled (due to a broken spring). This is a good representative example of a Deluxe Winchester Model 1873 Lever Action Rifle.
