Manufactured in 1894 this Model 1885 features a number 1 barrel with a windage adjustable front globe sight, there is no provision for a rear barrel sight and the tang is fitted with a Vernier mid-range peep sight. The top barrel flat is marked with the standard two line address on the forward portion of the octagon part, and "25 W.C.F." at the breech. The bottom of the barrel in front of the forearm is marked "1". The lower tang is marked with the patent date behind the trigger and the serial number behind the lever. Blue barrel, with casehardened remaining parts. Mounted with a checkered deluxe walnut forearm with ebony forend insert, pistol grip stock with cheek piece and Swiss style nickel plated brass buttplate. The accompanying factory letter verifies the rifle configuration, caliber, 28 inch #1, 1/2 octagon barrel, plain trigger, checkered pistol grip stock with Swiss cheek piece, front and lang sights, with "no rear seat", that it was received and shipped from the warehouse July 24, 1894 on order number 16525.

Condition: Fine. The barrel retains 70% faded original blue finish giving way to a smooth plum patina. The receiver has the name "Wm. Boden/Fairburn" scratched into the right side and retains 50% original case colors with a smooth gray patina on the balance. The lever shows strong original case colors in protected areas with a smooth brownish patina on the balance. The buttstock is very fine with most of the original varnish, some overall scattered minor dents. The forearm is very good except for a slight modification of the checkering pattern on left rear side by adding a small triangular pattern. Clear markings. The action is excellent.
