Davidson & Co./Levi Woodrum Marked Percussion Half Stock Plains Rifle
The light scroll engraved lock plate is marked "T. DAVIDSON & CO / CINCINNATI", with an engraved game scene behind the hammer. Tyler Davidson (1834-1866) is listed in Cincinnati, Ohio as a maker of lock plates. The barrel has fixed sights and is marked "LEVI WOODRUM" (the closest name listed is a Ezra Woodruff of Cincinnati, Ohio, circa 1820. Researchers could have misspelled the name). Brass furniture, replacement ramrod, and double set triggers. Half stock with crescent buttplate.
BBL: 36 1/4 inch octagon
Stock: maple
Gauge: 50 Perc
Finish: brown
Grips:
Serial Number: NSN
Condition: Very good. The rifle has mottled dark gray patina with minor flash pitting. The brass has a fine aged patina, with a piece of brass missing from the lower buttplate tang. Two large chips of wood are missing from the forearm with a few small chips absent overall, otherwise the refinished stock is very good with a few mild handling marks. Action needs work as the hammer does not hold at the full cock position. A very attractive, no speculation mid-19th century American Blaine rifle.
