Beautiful dark brown almost black Albany slip glaze stoneware pig by Anna Pottery, prior to 1875. The pig is a little unusual as it appears that it was quickly put into the kiln before it was finished with the presentation. The right side is left virtually black with the exception of a "Old Bourbon in -" pointing to the hogs rear in a small handwritten font, beneath you will find the town of "Cairo" as is common on most pigs. The Kirkpatricks often listed Cairo in an unflattering area of the vessel. Incised down the back of the pig is the Mississippi River with the words Miss. River on the top and a small dot referencing the town of "St. Louis". No Eads Bridge (built 1874) is present on Mississippi River. Nearly all pigs of this area will make some comment of the attempt to move the capitol from Washington D.C. to St. Louis, this one appears to start down that path but never finished the communication. The left side of the pig features the railroad and river guide, this area too appears to be rushed an unfinished compared to the others. The rail lines are drawn but only a few towns are listed such as; Grand Tower, Anna, Carbondale, Centraila and Mound City on the testicles of the pig. The railroads listed are C. & V. R.R, O & M R. R.. Located on the underbelly is "Cincinnati the Pork City" and on the chin is "Chicago the Corn City". H 3 1/2" L 8", W 3 1/4 "
