Cut down model 1868 U.S. Springfield trapdoor rifle, .50 cal., 24” barrel, high arch breech block, blue and case hardened finish, wood stock with shortened fore stock, #9436 on breech end of the barrel on the left sideand same number on the front of the action adjacent to the barrel number. This gun is in overall good to very good condition showing a brown and grey patina on the barrel with traces of case color on the receiverand lock plate with balance gone to a silvery tone, sharp markings of spread eagle, U.S. Springfield and 1863 on the lock plate and 1869 with eagle head and U.S. on the front of the “trapdoor”; bore should clean to verygood, crisp action, old replaced front sight, overall good wood stock showing old shortening of fore stock and filling of ramrod channel; four inspector cartouches on the left side of the stock above the triggerassembly; old leather thong with beads hanging down from the trigger guard sling swivel hole.
