Custom Sharps Sporting Rifle Conversion
This is a nice example of a Sharps carbine that has been converted to cartridge and according to the consignors notes was originally a carbine. The top barrel flat is marked with the boxed "Old Reliable" and "SHARPS RIFLE CO BRIDGEPORT. CONN" ahead of the rear sight and the left rear flat is marked "CAL. 40 2 1/2". The left side of the receiver is marked with the two line C. Sharps patent marking (fading) and the lock is marked "C. SHARPS' PAT / OCT 5TH 1852" , with the serial number on the upper tang. The re-stamped matching serial number appears on the bottom barrel flat under the forearm. Double set triggers, blue barrel and casehardened remaining parts, and mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with iron carbine buttplate.
