Curved blade Eaglehead Officer’s sword and partial scabbard made for the American market, likely by E. Richards & Co., Birmingham, England, circa 1790-1820, per consignor, grip is twist carved bone or marine ivory, pommel is fitted with Salter style eagle with clear detail and tang slightly protruding through top of head. Condition is overall near fine with majority of niter blue remaining on both sides of the upper blade and majority of gold gilding on design work strongly present; lower portion of blade shows scattered spots of light erosion; brass guard and pommel display a beautiful dark patina, leather washer has hardened but is completely present, sword head is slightly loose; small retailer’s initials on top edge of sword near hilt; scabbard’s brass throat is present, tip is missing, leather is splitting, worn, partial and very fragile but appears original to this sword.
